(Boston, MA) – Massachusetts Fallen Heroes (MFH) and the sponsors of Mass Save® – including Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil – are working together for a third consecutive year to run an LED lighting sale that benefits Gold Star Families and returning Veterans. This year’s sale runs from June through November and offers 15-piece LED lighting kits at the discounted price of $10, with half of all proceeds going to MFH to support its programs.

The specialty kits will be available at the Mass Save booth at events throughout the state this summer and fall, as well as online. A list of events and a link for online purchases can be found at MassSave.com/MAFallenHeroes. Each kit includes 15 ENERGY STAR® certified LED lights: four 60W-equivalent LED bulbs, four 100W-equivalent LED bulbs, four 75W-equivalent LED bulbs, two 100W-equivalent 3-way LED bulbs, and one LED desk lamp. These kits are available to customers at an 87% discount as part of the Mass Save lighting program, which the Mass Save sponsors administer with the goal of making energy-efficient lighting affordable and accessible to all Massachusetts electric customers. By participating in this sale, customers can help Massachusetts move closer to its energy-efficiency goals and support local Gold Star Families and Veterans.

“Massachusetts Fallen Heroes is proud and honored to be a part of this great program with all Mass Save sponsors yet again,” says Dan Magoon, Executive Director for MFH. “We continue to honor our Fallen and support Massachusetts Gold Star Families with all funds raised from this LED lighting sale, which empower Massachusetts Veterans all while making a positive impact on the environment. Thank you Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil.”

“We’re very pleased at how this relationship between Massachusetts Fallen Heroes and Mass Save has grown over the last three years,” says Eversource Energy Efficiency Spokesman Bill Stack. “We’ve seen and been inspired by the strong impact Massachusetts Fallen Heroes has on the community and those it serves. We’re proud to be working together on this campaign supporting local Gold Star Families and Veterans, while at the same time connecting customers to solutions for savings.”

Over the past two years, this collaborative effort has raised nearly $55,000 for MFH programs and distributed nearly 92,000 LEDs, saving an estimated 19.7 million kWh over the lifetime of these energy-efficient bulbs. Funds generated by these sales support multiple MFH programs including a scholarship program for siblings of the fallen, the Veteran’s Edge Program, which connects local Veterans with legal, employment, medical and housing services, and annual weekend retreats for Gold Star Families that focus on supporting their wellness and fostering a sense of community.

Mass Fallen Heroes Hosts Achilles Freedom Team for Marathon Weekend

April 10, 2018 – Dorchester, MA…. For the sixth year, Massachusetts Fallen Heroes (MFH) will host the Achilles Freedom Team for the Boston Marathon weekend. The team of 40 adaptive Veteran athletes will participate in the 2018 Boston Marathon as runners and handcyclists.

Both MFH and Achilles share the mission of empowering Veterans and providing opportunities that are physically and mentally healing. As host for the weekend, Mass Fallen Heroes provides the team a one-of-a-kind experience with accommodations at the Westin Boston Waterfront, a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial, followed by a “Welcome Dinner” with community partner, Scorpion Bar Boston. On Sunday, the team will enjoy the annual breakfast, a visit to Fenway Park, and a team pasta dinner.

“Achilles has been honored to partner with MFH during the Boston Marathon weekend for several years.  Our mission to empower veterans is what brought us together, and the reverence we have for the men and women we exist to serve is a shared, critical through-line with everything we do. That is what keeps this partnership thriving.  It is a beautiful thing to find like-minded, like-hearted allies within the not-for-profit community.  We look forward to joining forces again to continue giving back to the folks who deserve everything – our nation’s veterans,” commented Janet Patton, Director of Achilles Freedom Team.

Achilles Freedom Team athletes, which includes New England Veterans, their families, and trainers, will arrive in Boston Saturday, April 14th. The Freedom Team members include 34 handcyclists and 6 runners.

“Through community support, Mass Fallen Heroes is able to provide these programs to Veterans and work with organizations like Achilles International,” commented Dan Magoon, Executive Director for Mass Fallen Heroes. “The excitement generated from the weekend’s activities and the personal accomplishment that these Veterans experience during this annual visit to the City of Boston is unmatched,” continued Magoon.

Gold Star Daughter Receives New Car

Gold Star Daughter Receives New Car

BOSTON (CBS) – A local Gold Star Daughter now has a new ride after Massachusetts Fallen Heroes presented her with a refurbished car.

When Kaleigh Hayes was seven, her father, Sergeant Glenn Allison was killed serving in Iraq.

The now 21-year-old says her father and his service inspired her and was key to her involvement with the Boys and Girls Club.

Hayes says the car, a 2014 Nissan Sentra, will help keep her father’s memory alive through her mentoring work.

“He’s why I wake up every morning,” Hayes said. “I think about him. What would he want me to be doing for the future? Because it’s all about the future. It’s all about the future generations. They need to have safe future because that’s what he provided for me. So I want to provide for other people.”

Hayes is currently in college studying art and English and says the car will help with her education.

Patriot Week 2017, May 20th – 29th

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Patriot Week

In 2016, Massachusetts Fallen Heroes created the first ever Patriot Week as a lead-in to Memorial Day. The goal was to find creative and meaningful ways to educate and inspire the citizens of Massachusetts about Honor, Service, Sacrifice, Character and Duty—the real meaning behind Memorial Day and the values that so many young men and women have given their lives to protect. The result was an enormous success and we received positive feedback across the Commonwealth and now Patriot Week will be an annual and much-needed event in the Bay State.

MFH will launch it’s 2nd Annual Educational Program on May 15th. Our intent is to educate our youth on the significance of memorial Day, and to raise awareness of the ongoing increasing commercialization of this sacred holiday. We feel strongly that with communication and education, amongst our society is the best way to incorporate positive and healthy change. We have tripled in numbers with participating schools across the Commonwealth.

Please visit the Patriot Week website for event details. Learn how you can honor our fallen and support the families they left behind. Empower your returning Veterans who are transitioning back into civilian life after protecting your freedom.

Party On the Lawn, May 20th – Patriot Fest will be headlined by American country music singers and songwriters Tyler Farr and Eric Paslay and supported by Dalton and the Sheriffs and Louie Bello. $40.00 per person, must be 21. Purchase today at TicketMaster.
