About

What We Do and Why We Do It

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes was established in 2010 by Boston firefighters, local Veterans, Gold Star Families, Police Officers, and other patriotic citizens. We ourselves are Combat Veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and we are committed to memorializing our fellow service members who did not return home to their families. Our work began with a goal to construct a public memorial to honor all Massachusetts Fallen Heroes who gave their lives fighting the global war on terrorism since September 11, 2001. On May 27, 2016 the memorial was unveiled at the dedication of the memorial and reception. The memorial stands in Boston’s Seaport Park and serves as a place for reflection and remembrance of those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.

The work we do to Honor the Fallen was our beginning and we have since evolved from a charity, strictly geared towards building a tribute honoring Fallen Heroes, into a multifaceted organization. Massachusetts Fallen Heroes has developed a Veterans’ Edge program and now also act as a liaison in acquiring educational, employment, medical, legal, financial and numerous additional services to local military veterans, their families and families of the fallen. Veterans’ Edge ensures that all heroes returning home receive the support and services they have earned and deserve. Our outreach efforts, programs and events have united the Massachusetts Gold Star and Veteran communities in a unique bond of shared loss and healing.

How We Do It

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes proudly partners with a network of Massachusetts civilian organizations, Veterans organizations, non-profits, and private corporations who kindly donate their professional services to assist in the process of providing local Veterans and their families with specialized assistance.

Thanks to private donations and a generous donation from John B. Hynes III and Boston Global Investors, the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial stands in Boston’s Seaport Park and serves as a public space for reflection and remembrance of those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom since September 11, 2001.

We are proud to be a nonprofit entity charged with fundraising and constructing the Memorial by the Commonwealth. With the help of many volunteers and supporters from both within and outside the Veteran community we are able to accomplish our mission to Honor the Fallen, Assist Families of the Fallen and Empower Returning Veterans.

With continued support we look forward to expanding our Veterans Edge program to proudly serve all of our Commonwealth’s Veteran’s and to ensure they receive the proper care and services they deserve.

The Massachusetts Iraq & Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial is a recognized 501(c) 3 Tax-Deductible public charity.

"Watching a group of young Veterans that had already given so much, return home; and remember our Fallen Heroes with such dignity, respect and honor was more than just heart warming to me. These individuals probably have no idea of how they have turned a life around for a grieving mother, gave her a purpose, and more importantly a sense of belonging again."
